[5D4N] Explore Underwater World of Bunaken & Lembeh (Christmas Weekend)

If you love the ocean, this trip is definitely for you! Most of the times we will spend time snorkelling or diving at two of the well-known marine park sites in Indonesia – Bunaken and Lembeh. Besides that, we will also visit few a must-go places in Manado along the way to Bitung. If you haven’t got a plan yet on the Christmas week, do join us! If you are new to snorkelling or diving, you are welcome, too!

BUNAKEN – Feel the Glimpse of Sea Life in The Majestic Seagarden

Bunaken is an 8.08 km² island in the Bay of Manado, situated in the north of the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Bunaken forms part of the administrative city of Manado, capital of North Sulawesi. Bunaken is one of Indonesia’s most famous diving and snorkelling areas and it draws visitors from all over the world. In addition to banana-shaped Bunaken Island itself, the 890 km2 of the marine national park includes the neighbouring islands of Manado Tua (a distinctive cone-shaped extinct volcano), Siladen, Mantehage, Nain, and Nain Kecil.

Peek Holidays – Manado Tua – Bunaken

The translucent waters of the Bunaken seas enable people to clearly view numerous sea biota. There are 13 species of coral reefs in this park, dominated by edge ridges and block ridges of rocks. The most attractive view is the steep vertical sloppy coral reef that plunges down as deep as 25-50 meters. Feast your eyes on 91 types of fish found in the Bunaken National Park, amongst which are the locally known Gusimi Horse Fish (Hippocampus), the White Oci (Seriola Rrivoliana), Yellow-Tailed Lolosi (Lutjanus Kasmira), Goropa (Epinephelus Spilotoceps and Pseudanthias Hypselosoma), Ila Gasi (Scolopsis Bilineatus) and others. Divers may also meet molluscs like the Giant Kima (Tridacna Gigas), Goat Head (Cassis Cornuta), Nautilus (Nautilus Pompillius) and Tunicates/Ascidian.

Steep walls are marked with deep crevices, sea fans and giant sponges. The shallows are filled with fishes. The wall, often protected from stronger currents, is frequented by bumphead parrotfish, turtles, and Napoleon wrasses. You can also explore the island on foot or you can take a boat to move from one dive site to the other Just walking around the beach is already a most enjoyable experience.

Lembeh is an island off the northeast coast of Sulawesi near the town of Bitung. Lembeh Island is 25km long and 2km wide. Lembeh Island is separated from the mainland of Sulawesi by a narrow stretch of water known as the Lembeh Strait.

Nudibranch Lembeh

Lembeh Strait is home to some of the weirdest and most unusual marine life on the planet. Have you ever heard of a hairy frogfish, a bobbit worm, a hairy octopus or a wonderpus? In Lembeh you’ll meet a plethora of new species – some of them stunning, like the mandarin fish, and others are just downright ugly, like the sand-dwelling stargazers. For those interested in night diving, you’re in luck – some of the strangest critters come out of hiding when the sun goes down.
